Larceny rises in Virginia, first time in nine years.

Recent statistics across Virginia and the nation indicate that the floundering economy is likely to stimulate growth in one sector: crime.  Recently published FBI crime statistics show that last year property crime increased in Virginia. Larceny theft accounted for 77 percent of property crime statewide , 10 percent higher than the national average.

Richmond, Vir. is home to a diverse array of ethnic communities. Throughout the year, more than 12 multicultural festivals showcase the food, music, and history of these communities. In addition, many organizations and people host benefits to increase social capital for communities outside of Richmond.

This week is National Famer’s Market week. Richmond Farmer’s Markets and community gardens are a growing local trend. See, hear, and sample the South of the James Market, the most popular market in town. Each Saturday, locals flock to the market to purchase items from Richmond growers and artisans, or to simply hang out with their neighbors. Sales at local scooter shop Scoot Richmond have more than doubled recently. Crime has also increased, and scooter theft is on the rise. The wave of theft calls for extra precautions. Changes in state policy may also help owners protect their investment.
